The ICF⁺C is a global collective supporting a shift in one of the most traditionally narrow fields in filmmaking: cinematography. With your help, we can expand our impact and build a future where a greater variety of perspectives shape the media that shapes our culture.
Our Mission
The ICF⁺C exists to support, educate, and build global community among cinematographers who are in a position to actively experience gender discrimination in their careers. The ICFC provides a structure for the cultivation of educational resources, peer mentorship, networking opportunities, and professional development in the field of cinematography.
Our Context
Despite growing conversations around inclusion since 2015, fewer than 8% of working cinematographers depart from the gender expectations of the roll. The ICF⁺C is changing that by fostering a professional network where cinematographers find the community and specialized educational resources needed to thrive.
From just 15 members in a backyard in 2015 to 350+ global members today, our grassroots, peer-led organization delivers community, mentorship, and professional development at a pivotal mid-career stage—where most equity efforts stop short.
Why It Matters
Cinematography is both artistic and technical, it is subtly influential and shapes how we see both individual stories and our world—yet it remains the most gender-homogenized role in filmmaking.
The ICF⁺C is here to change that. By nurturing sustainable careers and spotlighting underrepresented talent, we’re working to shift not just hiring practices, but culture itself.
Your Donation Will Fund
ICF⁺C members possess the direct experience and drive to launch a number of member initiatives, all which require greater structural support. These include:
Why Now
Cultural interest in, or backlash to, our work fluctuates by the year — yet the need for advancement hasn’t changed. As industry partners reduce spending and studios reduce perceived “risk” in hiring, grassroots organizations like ICF⁺C are more critical than ever.
Your support enables us to build a resilient, professionally-run infrastructure that can meet the moment—and the future—with fortitude and influence.
